Stewardship

The Bible has a lot to say about money, but it is not a formula. Stewardship is a journey into submission and a beautiful expanse of your intimacy with the Creator and loving Father who invites you to trust Him with the finances He has given you.

At its core, stewardship is a humble acknowledgment that all that we have belongs to the Lord (Psalm 24:1). Even if we’ve put in incredible work to build wealth, He is the one who is empowered us to do so (Deuteronomy 8:18). He has a divine purpose for each of us for this wealth (1 Timothy 6:17-18), and we will be held accountable for how we have handled it (Luke 12:48).

Wealth is a gift from the Lord, and it is to be enjoyed (Ecclesiastes 5:19-20). Yet, it is not only for our over consumption (Matthew 6:19-21), nor is it to be placed in a priority position in our lives (Proverbs 3:9-10). We must be careful that our diligent work is for the Lord (Colossians 3:23-24), and not simply the pursuit of money (1 Timothy 6:10). We are blessed by the Lord so we can be a blessing to others (Proverbs 11:25) and give to the needs brought before us (2 Corinthians 9:8).

When it comes to giving, God has given us a standard (Deuteronomy 14:22-29), Jesus has broken the curse (Malachi 3:9), and we are free to give what our heart desires (2 Corinthians 9:7). We need to be careful this desire is from the Lord (Psalm 37:4) and not our reluctance to give (Matthew 6:22). We must also be mindful that our giving is not out of obligation or seeking the praise of others (1 Corinthians 13:3)

The Old Testament prescription of giving was more than just 10% (Deuteronomy 12:5-6), and today’s call is no simpler (Luke 21:1-4). What is key is a reliquenshing of control (Proverbs 3:5-6) to the One who’s in charge of it all (Ephesians 1:11) and a pursuit of intimacy with Him while you let Him lead you (Matthew 11:29-30).

A true Godly approach to money is wildly beneficial (2 Corinthians 9:6-12), but it is critical  your allegiance stays crystal clear (Matthew 6:24). Embarking on this transition from a willful ignorance of the Lord’s instruction (Deuteronomy 8:11) to becoming a wise steward (Luke 12:42-43) is not a popular one(Matthew 7:13-14), but it may save your eternity (Matthew 19:24).

At Storehouse, we do not have all the answers(Isaiah 55:8-9), but we are here to help shepherd your family (Proverbs 11:14), to challenge you (Proverbs 27:17), to teach you (Romans 15:14), and to support you (Matthew 20:26-27) in your unique fulfillment of God’s plan (Proverbs 16:3) so you may one day hear those seven sweet words we should all long to hear, “Well done my good and faithful servant.” (Matthew 25:23)
